Biography

Juan Carlos Flores Cano is a Partner at Anker Abogados. He holds a Law Degree from Universidad del Valle de Mexico, where he graduated with honors for high academic achievement, a Master's Degree in Social Responsibility from Universidad Anahuac del Norte, and a Diploma in Strategic Planning for Corporate Social Responsibility from the same institution.

He has extensive and proven experience in corporate affairs and sustainability, having served in leading companies within the renewable energy and mining industries. He specializes in social and community development—including baseline studies, social impact assessments, and prior, free, and informed consultations with indigenous peoples and communities—as well as labor relations, union dispute management, and government relations.

He is an expert in resolving social and agrarian conflicts, complex negotiations, acquisition and regularization of surface land (private property, agrarian lands, and national lands), real estate law, obtaining permits, licenses, concessions and authorizations, regulatory law and compliance, right-of-way acquisition, mining law, and corporate governance.

He obtained the Professional Certification in Anti-Corruption Compliance (CPC-A), awarded by Legal Ethics Compliance (LEC) in 2021. He completed the Negotiation Workshop "Theory and Tools of the Negotiation Project" at Harvard University, as well as the Seminar on Agrarian Negotiation and Prior Consultation offered by the Barra Mexicana, Colegio de Abogados (Mexican Bar Association). He has served as a professor in the Diploma in Social Responsibility for Mining Projects at Universidad Anahuac and Tecnológico de Monterrey.

Prior to joining Anker Abogados, he was a Founding Partner of Flores Doncel y Muñiz Consultores, S.C. He served as Director of Corporate Affairs and Sustainability at Equinox Gold Corp. (Los Filos Mining Unit); General Manager of Social Development, Labor Relations, Government Relations, and Security at Minera Frisco, S.A.B. de C.V. (Grupo Carso); and Country Manager at Ideal Panamá, S.A. (Grupo Carso), where he led the development, construction, and operation of two hydroelectric plants in the Republic of Panama. He also held positions as Business Development Manager at Acciona Energía México and Eurus, S.A.P.I. de C.V., as well as several senior roles in the Government of the State of Mexico (Ministry of Transportation). He served as a Board Member of the Cámara Minera de México (CAMIMEX) for four years.
